Overview
Discover one of the world’s most remarkable ancient cities on a full-day excursion from Sharm El Sheikh to Petra in Jordan.
Your journey begins at approximately 1:30 AM with pickup from your hotel gate and transfer to Taba. The distance from Sharm El Sheikh to Taba is approximately 190 km, with arrival expected at around 6:00 AM.
From Taba, you will take a ferry across the Gulf of Aqaba to the Jordanian city of Aqaba. The sea crossing takes up to 1 hour. The Gulf of Aqaba connects four countries: Jordan, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Arrival at Aqaba port is expected at approximately 8:30 AM. Your guide will meet you there, and you will continue by bus toward Petra, passing through the Wadi Rum desert.
Siq Canyon
The main part of the excursion begins at the Siq Canyon. You will walk approximately 1,200 metres through winding paths between spectacular red and pink rock formations.
At the end of the canyon, you will see the magnificent Al-Khazneh, also known as The Treasury, carved directly into the rock.
Al-Khazneh – The Treasury
Al-Khazneh is a Nabataean temple from the Hellenistic era. Its impressive facade is approximately 40 metres high and 25 metres wide.
According to legend, an Egyptian pharaoh created the temple to hide his treasures in its highest urn. Traces of shots fired by Bedouins who once tried to reach the supposed treasure can still be seen, although the urn itself is carved entirely from sandstone.
Another version suggests that the monument was built by the Nabataean king Aretas IV Philopatris as his personal tomb.
You will also have the opportunity to see Petra’s ancient amphitheatre for approximately 8,000 people, Roman colonnades and a Byzantine church.
Petra was also used as a filming location for part of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, giving visitors the opportunity to experience both ancient history and a famous location from modern cinema.
At approximately 3:00 PM, lunch will be served at a 5-star hotel.
At approximately 5:00 PM, you will return to Aqaba for a short sightseeing tour. At around 6:00 PM, you will take the ferry from Aqaba back to Taba.
Expected arrival at your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh is approximately midnight.

Passport (required), comfortable seasonal clothing and shoes, a jacket for the air-conditioned bus, headdress, sunglasses, packed rations, drinking water, photo and video devices, and money for personal expenses. Packed rations can be ordered free of charge from your hotel reception 12 hours before the trip.
Important information
Important information
You do not need an Egyptian visa to enter Petra on this excursion. The excursion is conducted on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday and from Friday to Saturday. Please wear comfortable seasonal clothing and shoes. The bus is air-conditioned, so bringing a jacket is recommended.
